Highlights of Dublin

Stroll around Dublin and explore many of the hidden wonders of this city brimming with history and culture. Your informative guide will show you the many highlights of Dublin on this two hour walking tour.

Your scenic walk begins at the bustling O'Connell Street. Marvel at the many statues that line this historic street. As you travel south on O'Connell Street you will see the General Post Office, one of the most famous buildings in Ireland. During the Easter Rebellion of 1916, this building served as headquarters for the uprising's leaders and remains a symbol of Irish nationalism. Near the General Post Office is the Henry Shopping District, a pedestrian thoroughfare that serves as Dublin's principle shopping district. While in the Henry Shopping District you can't miss The Spire, a monument that stands 398 feet tall. Leaving the shopping district, you will see St. Mary's Church, a 17th century structure where Arthur Guinness, founder of the Guinness Brewery, was married.

Your Dublin walking tour continues through the Italian Quarter and across the famous Ha'penny Bridge. This pedestrian bridge crosses the River Liffey and leads into Temple Bar, a former suburb of medieval Dublin. Temple Bar is known as the cultural center of Dublin and features many bars and a vibrant nightlife. Passing through Temple Bar, your walk takes you past several historically significant government buildings, including Smock Alley Theatre, Ireland's oldest theatre and then up to Fishamble Street where in 1742 Handel's Messiah was first performed. Next you will pass through the grounds of Dublin's oldest cathedral, Christ Church before visiting the courtyards of Dublin Castle, which today serves as a major government complex. We will end beside City Hall, built in 1769, and only a stone's throw from Trinity College, Ireland's oldest university.
